Our History

It all actually began when both Sakarias and Mathias moved to Gotland. Sakarias moved for the love of his wife, and Mathias for the love of the island. They had known each other since their 20s and shared a crucial common interest – food and drink. Over lunch in 2021, the idea of creating their own gin was born. The idea felt genuinely exciting, and the possibility of actually creating a unique and fantastic gin from scratch. Gotland's unique nature.

For just over a year, they worked in the shadows to develop recipes, design the bottle, set up the factory, search for local ingredients, and obtain all the necessary permits. Almost exactly one year after that lunch in 2021, Gotlands Ginfabrik became a reality, and the launch took place in the summer of 2022.

Sustainability

Vi arbetar så lokalt som möjligt efter en strikt närhetsprincip. Om råvaran finns på Gotland – och håller högsta kvalitet – så köper vi gotländskt, annars letar vi vidare inom Sverige. Alla våra råvaror kommer från Sverige. Råspriten är också inhemsk och kommer från en mindre producent i södra Sverige. Vissa råvaror odlar vi även själva som till exempel myskmadra och lavendel medan andra, såsom nypon och äpplen till vår glögg, plockar vi i gotländska trädgårdar.

The ingredients

We have two guiding principles that we never compromise on, Gotland and flavor perfection. Gotland's pantry sets the boundaries, and the rest is up to us. No compromises when it comes to ingredients and taste.

Sakarias Ronquist

Sakarias always dreamed of building something from the ground up with ingredients directly from the unique and breathtaking landscape that the island offers. Following his heart and creating something that tastes amazing and is visually enchanting are his passions. He loves competitions and is constantly motivated to evolve and improve. For him, much of it is about being his own person and making his own choices.

Mathias Jöhnk

Mathias is a passionate enthusiast when it comes to food and drink. After years of getting lost in mundane tasks and less meaningful office jobs, he has finally found his true calling. He can be grumpy, a sore loser, but he has an inexhaustible determination. Within the company, he wears many hats, from creating recipes and distilling gin to bottling, sales, and marketing – even cleaning.
