Triple Gotland Cask (2024)
Triple Gotland Cask is a limited creation where triple enjoyments from Gotland have come together: Gotlands Ginfabrik x Gotland Whisky x Tektor Cigars.
We have aged our gin in old oak barrels from Gotland Whisky, where they have aged Trullaik, which is a six-year-old potent whisky at 48%. The barrels are made of Hungarian and American oak, with the American oak imparting tones of raisins, vanilla, and honey, while the Hungarian oak contributes spiciness. Trullaik is a old Swedish word for an ancient oak tree that stands in the northern part of Gotland between the parishes of Hall and Hangvar. It has likely been standing here since the Viking Age and was once a place of offering where people sought wisdom and contact with ancient gods. Despite centuries passing, the oak remains standing and today is a symbol that some things defy the ravages of time and endure long after we are gone.
After the gin has been barrel-aged for about three months, it has rested in steel tanks for a few more months where we gently infused the gin with cigar smoke from Tektor Cigars. Beyond the leathery and smoky tones, those who seek can also find light notes of sweet cola.
Tektor Cigars is the only cigar producer in Europe. The name Tektor was borrowed from the robber Konrad Tektor who was sentenced to death in 1876. The punishment was carried out a very close by from where Tektor Cigars now has its production.
Our ambition has been to create an elegant and thoroughly adult sipping gin that can be enjoyed neat as a digestif after a fine meal, perhaps paired with a cigar... Or why not give it the starring role in a more bombastic Dry Martini or a lightly smoky Negroni.
Genius, taste, and punch, like a towering bodyguard for the dark side of the bar. Masterful!
”Highly recommended.
Gotland Cask Aged Gin (2023)
We've developed our Cask Aged Gin using our gin concentrate, which has been matured in a Swedish bourbon barrel throughout the summer. This barrel, heavily charred, originates from Missouri and was previously used by the Swedish distillery Hven to age its corn whiskey for 7.5 years. The outcome is a gin with a unique flavor profile, enhanced by understated bourbon nuances and a touch of tropical sweetness and vanilla from the barrel, offering a taste experience that spans two distinct worlds in each drop."
”Very strong recommendation. After over seven years with Hven's corn whiskey, Gotland's Gin Factory has taken this initially charred bourbon barrel from Missouri and allowed their gin concentrate to spend time in it before bottling. The result is 'spot on'. The classic gin character with elements like juniper, citrus, and anise with set herbs is the backbone, but it's then layered with a slightly fudgy vanilla streak, more pure licorice saltiness, and hints of violet, peach, coconut, and apricot, which enhances this gin's diversity without losing its gin sharpness. The alcohol volume is well-set too, paving the way for a robust and classy G&T. But it also invites enjoyment served straight – and without the martini – ice-cold in a martini glass, or as the base in a classic cocktail, and as a cool digestif in a wide whiskey glass. Good in any form.”
